Salary Range: $68,846 - $77,532
Pension: 10-year vesting, 3% multiplier, 5% employee contribution
Health Insurance: Employee premiums paid by the City
Are you ready to take charge of fire prevention and safety in a growing, community-focused city? The City of Lake Alfred is seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Fire Marshal to lead our fire code enforcement, inspection program, and public safety efforts. This full-time professional role plays a critical part in ensuring the safety of our residents, businesses, and city facilities.
Reporting directly to the Fire Chief, the Fire Marshal is responsible for enforcing fire codes, reviewing construction plans, conducting inspections, and serving as a key advisor on fire-related matters.
What You'll Do:
Review architectural, building, and engineering plans for fire safety compliance
Conduct fire inspections during and after construction to ensure code adherence
Oversee regular inspections of local businesses and city facilities
Investigate complaints, prepare code enforcement cases, and testify when needed
Collaborate with contractors, engineers, and the State Fire Marshal’s office
Participate in emergency operations and assist with structural damage assessments
Serve as a key voice in fire safety planning and development review
What You Bring:
Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s preferred
Five (5) years’ experience as a Fire Safety Inspector II (preferred)
Certification as a Florida Firefighter II and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
Fire Inspector I certification (required)
Strong communication, inspection, and enforcement skills
Ability to lead with professionalism, tact, and attention to detail
Familiarity with permitting and inspections software
A valid driver’s license and in-office/on-site presence are required.
