Public Works Roads & Streets Division Service Worker II Part-Time
$17.09 per hour, 24 Hours/Week, City Paid Retirement, Paid Holidays, Vacation & Sick Leave
The Service Worker II Roads & Streets position plays a vital role in ensuring the upkeep and functionality of city infrastructure, streets, and buildings. The primary responsibility is the maintenance and care of city streets, alleys, right of ways, stormwater utilities, and city-owned structures. This position requires a skilled individual with a minimum of two years of experience in street maintenance or a related field. The successful candidate will be proficient in operating various lawn equipment and performing heavy manual labor, utilizing hand and power tools for equipment assembly, installation, and property maintenance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain city streets, alleys, rights-of-way, stormwater facilities, and city-owned buildings.
- Perform routine grounds and road right-of-way cleaning and maintenance, including grass cutting, weed trimming, shrubbery pruning, and leaf raking.
- Operate hand tools and small power-operated tools for routine tasks.
- Assist in moving furniture and equipment, supply distribution, and running errands as needed.
- Knowledge of FDOT requirements for traffic, road, and sidewalk maintenance, repairs, and construction.
- Contribute to landscape installation and maintenance efforts.
- Operate light trucks and motorized equipment essential for ground maintenance.
- Undertake minor equipment repairs, carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical tasks under supervision.
- Participate in cemetery maintenance and support sanitation collections when required.
- Flexibility to work occasional weekends, nights, holidays, and special events.
- Participate in on-call rotations for evenings, weekends, and disaster/storm events.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Valid Florida Driver’s License – Class “B” CDL is preferred.
- High school graduation or equivalent.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in street maintenance or a similar field.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and required equipment/tools.
- Proficiency in operating heavy machinery and various lawn equipment.
- Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Capability to work with co-workers and the public courteously and efficiently.
- Physical fitness to perform manual labor tasks and operate tools.
